After successfully founding Williams Industries, Inc. in Virginia in 1960, business partners Frank Williams Jr. and John Murphy were asked by their customers to perform some steel erection work in the Atlanta area. Murphy came to Georgia in 1967, and once he arrived, it became clear they’d found a market they wanted to stay in. Williams, Murphy, and Williams’ father F. Everett Williams created Williams Enterprises of Georgia and established an office in Smyrna, GA, and the company’s presence in the Southeast has continued to grow since.

Over time, the group acquired Atlanta Steel Erectors in 1979, Chattanooga Boiler & Tank in 1987, and Carolina Integrated Solutions in 2014. As the volume of structural steel erection work increased, Williams Erection Company was founded in 1989 to take on that work, and Industrial Fabricators Inc. was created in 1993 to fabricate miscellaneous metal products. Most recently, Gadsden Plate Services opened in 2021 to provide processed plate services. Today, Williams Enterprises of Georgia remains headquartered in Smyrna, and together with the rest of the Williams Family of Companies is the largest erector in the Southeast.
